US equity markets tumbled on April 4 as trade-war fears wiped out nearly $2.5 trillion ahead of the US monthly jobs report and Fed chair Jerome Powell’s speech.

Dow Jones went down by 0.9%, or over 350 points, while S&P 500 futures fell by 0.8%. Tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.5%.

As per economists, the risk of a US recession is rising. The release of the March jobs report will shed some light on the health of the US economy before Trump's big tariff push took hold. Nonfarm payrolls are set to surge by 140,000 as the reading is expected to release by 8:30 a.m. ET.

Investors are set to keep a close watch on Fed chair Jerome Powell’s speech about the economy’s health, tariffs and interest rates.
